The idea
What this is
Young people in Pasadena care deeply about the issues shaping their community. Still, many don’t know where to start getting involved, or they worry that speaking up will lead to conflict instead of connection.
Many Voices, One Pasadena is a four-session workshop series that builds the skills to change that: active listening, disagreeing without making it personal, spotting misinformation, and talking through local issues that actually matter. The series ends with a youth-led dialogue day, where participants lead the conversation themselves.

How it works
Start Here
Active listening and a first look at what civic engagement really means.
Disagreeing Well
Practicing respectful disagreement on real, moderate-stakes local issues.
Truth & Noise
Media literacy, and choosing the issue each group brings to the final session.
The Dialogue
A youth-led dialogue day where participants run the room.
Ninety minutes each, held weekly over Zoom. Open to all experience levels, at no cost.
Everyone starts somewhere
Who this is for
This program is for anyone who cares about what happens in Pasadena, no matter where they’re starting from. Some youth are still figuring out how to speak up about something that matters to them. Others are already the person their friends come to when a conversation gets tense and want better tools for it. No prior experience with civics or local issues is required. The program is open to anyone in grade 9 or above with a connection to Pasadena—whether you live there, work there, or attend or previously attended school there. You don’t need to currently live or attend school in Pasadena to participate.
Certificate of completion
Participants who attend all four sessions receive a certificate of completion. Joining individual sessions is welcome as well, but the program builds on itself, so attending the full series offers the most benefit.
